1888 Scholten Portraits Tip O'Neill Cabinet Card
Scholten portraits issued a cabinet card set of the World Champion St. Louis Browns team incorporating photographs used in the Old Judge cabinet series. We have seen several other examples and all were St. Louis players. The image features a batting pose of the Canadian left fielder and has the Goodwin & Co. copyright on the right side. The cabinet card identifies O'Neill in fountain pen with Scholten St. Louis in red. The reverse has advertising for Scholten Portraits and lists the awards the company had received. There is a bit of staining to the cabinet card, meriting an overall grade of VG. Former Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill was no relation, though the latter received his nickname on account of the old ballplayer.
