1930s WPA Folk Art Sign

1930s WPA Folk Art Sign

If you saw this WPA sign at a construction site in the '30s, you knew what the deal was, the New Deal that is. President Franklin Roosevelt launched an alphabet soup of programs that included the Work Projects Administration to dig the country out of the Depression. This 3-by 2-foot red, white and blue-striped aluminum shows wear which gives it the character of a piece of WPA art unto itself. The back is stenciled with the same lettering on the front. A wonderful piece of American art.
