When Detroit Tigers pitcher Art Houtteman made his baseball debut in 1945, he was the youngest player in the American League at just 17 years old. Here is a fascinating collection of (27) wire photos covering his solid career commencing with his rookie season through his final trade to the Orioles in 1957. Images in-between include: AP coverage of the 1949 car accident that fractured his skull; 1950 as a new Army recruit; 1951 with his wife welcoming their baby daughter; his trade to the Indians in 1953. Sized from 3x8" to 8x12", photos range in condition from VG to MT with most on the better end of that range.
