1948 "Dewey Defeats Truman" Newspaper

1948 "Dewey Defeats Truman" Newspaper

It's the most famous "wrong" headline in history. In the early hours of November 3, 1948, with the election too close to correctly call, the Chicago Daily Tribune - going to press earlier than usual due to a revamped printing process - jumped the gun and declared New York Governor Thomas Dewey the winner over Harry Truman, who had, in fact, pulled the upset victory. Not only do you get the front page in this lot, you get the complete newspaper, which is VG with some light water staining and some chips around the edges. There is a mailing stamp at the top right-hand corner.
