1954 Nestor Chylak Major League Debut Ticket Stub PSA PR 1

1954 Nestor Chylak Major League Debut Ticket Stub PSA PR 1

Scarce Washington Senators ticket stub (4.24x1.5") from Hall of Fame umpire Nestor Chylak's first Major League game on opening day, April 13, 1954, at Griffith Stadium. Graded PR 1 by PSA. This is one of only six examples of this particular ticket listed in the PSA database, and one of two graded at this level, with just two graded higher. Chylak was the third base umpire in his Major League debut, a 10-inning affair that ended in a 5-3 win for Washington over the New York Yankees. For the next 25 years, covering 3,857 regular-season games, Chylak was regarded as one of the top umpires in the game. He also umpired in five World Series, three League Championship Series, and six All-Star Games. In 1999 Chylak was posthumously elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, becoming just the eighth umpire so honored.
