1976 Preakness Sterling Silver Award Trophy Bowl

1976 Preakness Sterling Silver Award Trophy Bowl

After finishing third in the Kentucky Derby, two-year-old thoroughbred Elocutionist won the Preakness by three-and-a-half lengths, earning his trainer this cup, on which is beautifully engraved: "MARYLAND JOCKEY CLUB THE PREAKNESS 76 WINNING TRAINER PAUL T. ADWELL - ELOCUTIONIST." The trophy is marked on the bottom and measures 9" in diameter. Also included in the lot are two unknown race-worn shoes from the same vendor, one of which reads: "St. Croix Forge." During a brief career that spanned seven months, Elocutionist finished on the board in all 12 of his starts, winning nine, running second once, and taking third in the remaining two.
