1983 Roger Clemens Telegram to Boston Red Sox, Accepting Contract

1983 Roger Clemens Telegram to Boston Red Sox, Accepting Contract

A historic and truly amazing Western Union telegram sent on June 17, 1983 from Roger Clemens to Danny Doyle, Boston Red Sox Scout, accepting their contract offer. Clemens had been drafted by the Sox in 1983, #19 in the first round. His initial contract amounted to $121,000, and the money could not have been better spent, since he went on to play 13 seasons for the Sox, eventually winning 192 games for them. And, of course going on to win 341 games - so far. Clemens is certainly the premier pitcher of his generation, and one of the best to ever play the game. The telegram bears the name of his mother, Bessie J. Wright, since Clemens had not yet turned twenty-one. The telegram is NRMT, with a light crease in the upper left and a staple puncture, also upper left. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a truly important historic document.
