1991 Columbus Clippers International League Champions Ring Rich Monteleone

1991 Columbus Clippers International League Champions Ring Rich Monteleone

The 1991 Columbus Clippers was Triple-A minor league farm club of the George Steinbrenner owned New York Yankees. As everyone knows, George Steinbrenner loved to win. Majors, minors, pre-season, in season, or in the World Series, Steinbrenner strove to win. So, it's no surprise that Steinbrenner wanted to stock his top farm club with players who could win. And they did, winning the International League Championship. The '91 Clippers were stocked with numerous future or past Major Leaguers. Rich Monteleone was 28 years old during this championship season. He pitched in relief and was 1-2, with an ERA of 2.12 and 17 saves. In the Major leagues his career record was 24-17. The Columbus team was led in batting by future Major leaguer pat Kelly, who hit .336. The team also had future Major Leaguers Dave Sax at catcher and first base, Jim Leyritz at catcher and infield, Andy Stankiewicz at second, Steve Howe pitching, and Lovullo, Gerald Williams, and Bernie Williams in the outfield. The ring is size 10-10.5. It is stamped "Jenkins 10K" inside the band. The center stone features the New York Yankee crossed NY lettering. Around the center stone is imprinted "Columbus Clippers 1991". Circling around that is imprinted "International league Champions". The ring has significance in that exhibits the New York Yankee influence during the turbulent, and winning, Steinbrenner years.
