The Holy Grail of Bobbing Heads -- 1962 Houston Colt 45s Black Face

The Holy Grail of Bobbing Heads -- 1962 Houston Colt 45s Black Face

No team created more bobble head dolls than the fledgling Houston Colt 45s. And no doll among them -- or the entire line of baseball bobbing heads of the era -- is nicer or rarer than this "Black Face" bobbing head from the team's maiden season of 1962. Less than a handful of these are known to exist today, so consider what a find this one is given its very close to MINT condition. Different Colt bobbing heads were made between 1961-1965, with the "Blue Uniform", "Cowboy Hat" and "Black Face" the rarest, and the last in the shortest supply perhaps due to its marketing only to black fans. There were several variations of the "Black Face," with figures dressed either in uniforms reading "Colts" (as here) or with the "C" in the form of smoke coming from a pistol underneath, and either holding a silver pistol (as here) or throwing a ball with one hand and a glove on the other. Also the green mounting bases were either round and inscribed "Houston" (as here) or a block reading "Houston Colt .45s." This one represents the rarer of the two. 6 1/2" tall doll is all original with no restoration whatsoever and has the 1962 Made in Japan stamping on the underside. The best vintage baseball bobbing head on the planet, period. NRMT+.
