1923 New York Yankees Photographs (2)

1923 New York Yankees Photographs (2)

The year 1923 marked the first World Series victory for the New York Yankees, and thus will always remain an important event in franchise history. Presented is a splendid pair of original 1923 Yankee photographs, originating from the estate of catcher Bennie Bengough. The first of the offered images depicts the entire 1923 team and measures approximately 10" x 8" in the original frame. The photo exhibits superb contrast and features an inscription along the bottom ("American League and World's Champions 1923"), penned entirely in Bengough's hand. The second image depicts the three 1923 Yankee catchers, Bennie Bengough, Wally Schang, and Fred Hofmann. This photo, housed in the original 8.5" x 6.5" frame, also features an inscription penned in Bengough's hand, "Catching Staff World's Champions 1923". In addition, Bengough has signed the piece across his own image, and then identified his two teammates in a similar fashion. Both photos are in Excellent (EX), or better, condition, with most of the ink grading 8 out of 10 in strength.
