1960 Cassius Clay Golden Gloves First Championship Program

1960 Cassius Clay Golden Gloves First Championship Program

Long before he became a worldwide figure, a fresh-faced Cassius Clay stepped into the ring at the "World's Most Famous Arena." The man who would be known as Muhammad Ali represented Chicago at the inter-city Golden Gloves Championships at Madison Square Garden, and this 6x9" program is from that March 21, 1960 card. There is some tape repair inside and the program rates in VG-EX condition. The youthful Clay, described in his bio as "... 18 years old and... a high school student," entered his match with Gary Jawish with a record of three decisions and one knockout. Despite being outweighed by over 50 pounds, Clay prevailed in that title bout.
