1960 Post Cereal HIGH GRADE Complete Set

1960 Post Cereal HIGH GRADE Complete Set

Offered is a tremendous complete set of the first ever issued cards from Post Cereal. On a very limited basis, the Post company produced a set of nine "Sports Stars" and "issued" them one per box on Post Grape Nuts cereal. Their large size and distributing method of one per box, has resulted in a very limited supply of these treasured relics. These cards are so rare, they are virtually unseen in catalog auctions, and almost never seen at the larger sports card conventions. Although issued on a very limited basis, they were successful enough that Post issued 200-card baseball sets during the next three years. This set features NINE of the biggest names in sports of that era, with FIVE of the cards sporting baseball stars, with TWO stars each from football and basketball. Includes: Mickey Mantle, Ed Mathews, Harmon Killebrew, Al Kaline, Don Drysdale, Johnny Unitas, Frank Gifford, Bob Cousy and Bob Petit. All cards are neatly cut around the wood framed border, several having light wrinkles around the periphery of the frames, with the usual light staining to the reverses. The overall appearance to these cards is very strong, although the technical "grades" might be lower. And the advent of third-party grading is one of the reasons why these rare beauties are not as favored as the years have moved forward. During the 1960s, '70s and '80s, these cards were some of the most revered and highly sought cards, but since PSA DOES NOT grade and encapsulate them, the 1960 Post Cereal cards have fallen out of favor with the GPA crowd within the hobby. However, the veteran card collectors know how difficult these cards are to locate, and in this high grade. Some cards have a shading on the reverse from the glue which was used to assemble the cereal boxes, a natural factor for these cards. The beautiful photography and rich color of 1960 Post Cereal cards make this issue one of the most striking and distinctive of all 1960s cards. This is a strong complete set of one of the most important and rarest all 1960s baseball card sets.
