1979-83 Gaylord Perry Win and Strikeout Baseballs (23)
Though he played for five different teams from 1979 to 1983, the latter-years nomad known as Gaylord Perry produced some milestone moments on the diamond as the veteran shot like lightning up the all-time wins and strikeouts lists, as well as several other categories. In order, this lot includes: from 1979, six baseballs including wins 275 and 276. From 1980 are five balls including win numbers 280 and 284, his 52nd career shutout and strikeout number 3,200. There are three balls from 1981, including his 290th win and a home run ball that he hit on August 27 in Philadelphia. From 1982, there are some very good ones, including his 100th strikeout of the year, marking the 18th consecutive year he ascended the 100-strikeout plateau, his 5,000th inning pitched in the major leagues, his 298th and 299th wins and a ball from the 300th win game that is also signed by Early Wynn. Lastly, from 1983 are his 53rd career shutout, 308th win and 3,500th strikeout balls. Each of the baseballs shows use and was used in the games, some even being used during the last outs. The strikeout balls were the actual balls used for the whiffs (3rd strike) and all have been notated in pen, most in Perry's own hand. A winning collection if ever there was one!
