Spectacular 1880's Buck Ewing & John Montgomery Ward Baseball Clock

Spectacular 1880's Buck Ewing & John Montgomery Ward Baseball Clock

Out of this world mantle clock is the finest quality baseball decorative arts piece ever produced. We have salivated over this for years at the home of Barry Halper. Highly ornate workings are sandwiched by two exuberant baseballers, which each stand a lusty 7.5" high. They perfectly depict pitcher John Montgomery Ward and catcher Buck Ewing of the mighty New York National League Base Ball Club. They stand on a voluptuous 2.5" thick marble base, which aids in giving this piece a quality that is unsurpassed. The mighty clock itself is a thrilling combination of Victorian and early art nouveau stylings. The ivory-like porcelain face exudes sumptuous crafting, with "SF" markings and displays the inner workings of this reliable timepiece. Yes, it even chimes on the hour and half-hour! The base is extraordinarily detailed and supremely elegant. The feet are the heads of fish that grasp pedestals in their mouths. The front of the base is decorated with the head of a woman right out of Greek mythology. The trusty original wind-up keys are included. Put it all together and this is a dream piece. The best of the best. This is the type of piece that you build a room around (20" long x 7" wide x 15" tall). EX-MT. Ex-Barry Halper Collection.
