The T. Truxton Hare Collection

The T. Truxton Hare Collection

From the estate of one of the greatest football players who ever lived. T. Truxton Hare was Penn's four-time Walter Camp All-American (one of only four), who said he was the only man who could be an All-American at any position. Bruising blocker, peerless punter & ball carrier, Penn team captain (1899-1900), this 6'2" 208-pounder was a colossus for his day. The All-Time All-American at guard, he is a founding 1951 College Football Hall of Fame Inductee. There are two main pieces. First, 16x14" mounted football team photo of St. Mark's School of Southboro, Mass (VG-EX). Second, his career scrapbook (100+ pages, 12x10x2": 1895 Yale-Harvard & 1897 Penn full color hand-drawn broadsides (he drew them), about 100 rare football & baseball photos from Penn & SM, 1897 bb sked, Winter Meet programs (3), 1896 high school football letter (need men to referee), superb pencil self portrait in uniform, and his 1897 St. Mark's High School yearbook. Plus, 1897 Penn (4-25), 1895 Penn-Harvard & 1896 Princeton-Harvard football ticket stubs. Best of all are the signatures. There is a card signed "Mr. T. Truxton Hare", his full signature on an envelope, a Yale Club letter (unsigned), other writings in his hand, and a 1897 dinner program signed by him and his SM teammates. Passing away in 1956, Hare is an extremely rare if not unknown signature. Photos of him are equally rare.
