1950 Bob Watt Edmonton Mercurys World Championship Game Worn Sweater

1950 Bob Watt Edmonton Mercurys World Championship Game Worn Sweater

Known as “The Forgotten Team,” the Edmonton Mercurys delivered twice for Canada on the international stage. Prior to winning the 1952 Olympic gold medal, the Mercurys captured the gold at the 1950 World Championships in London, England. Bob Watt’s remarkable, game-worn sweater from that world championship season is offered in this lot. “A Caldwell Product” manufacturer’s label resides in the collar while a large felt maple leaf crest adorns the front with an incredibly decal-rich “EDMONTON MERCURYS” and logo in felt. Beautiful chain-stitching accents and logo and veining in the maple leaf. Four team repairs are on the right sleeve while one additional repair is on the left. An un-repaired hole on each sleeve is also of note. The back features an incredible “CANADA” banner nameplate in felt with chain-stitching on the maple leaves above Watt’s number “7” in blue and white felt. The right sleeve features the Mercurys’ logo above the number “7.” Some sweat staining near the collar and wear evident below the crest on the front. Preserved in immaculate condition with no degradation to anything on this beautiful vintage sweater, the colors are bright and as bold as when the world championship was captured more than 60 years ago.
